Storytelling for Caseworkers I: Listening for What's Important

ABOUT THE TRAINING

Caseworkers bear witness to the stories of constituents experiencing the federal government, often in the most difficult and intimate moments of their lives. In this session, we will take lessons from The Moth-style storytelling to consider what makes a compelling story and what storytelling can teach us about listening. We’ll learn how practicing the skills of a good story-listener or coach can help ground and de-escalate constituents. And we’ll explore how the stories we hear can build support for policy change.

NOTE: This is Part I of a two-part series. While the two sessions are designed to complement each other, you are welcome to attend either session or both. Both sessions will be interactive and allow participants the opportunity to share and hear from other caseworkers.
