New On-Demand Training, "GenAI in a Parliamentary Setting: Enhancing Productivity for Elected Officials"

POPVOX Foundation’s mission is to help democratic institutions keep pace in a rapidly changing world. By spreading best practices, conducting research, and encouraging innovation from within institutions, we raise awareness of how legislatures can benefit from using emerging technologies to improve capacity, transparency, and effectiveness. Since the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), we have watched elected officials and parliamentary staff begin to explore these powerful new tools and have worked to create resources in support of safe and responsible adoption.

Today, we're excited to share our latest resource: "GenAI in a Parliamentary Setting: Enhancing Productivity for Elected Officials" an introductory training video we designed specifically for Members of Parliament who want to understand how commercially available Large Language Models (LLMs) can enhance their work serving constituents.

Why This Training Matters

By focusing our training on practical applications for parliamentary work, we aim to showcase how currently available AI tools can serve as powerful instruments in an MP's toolkit when used safely and responsibly. Oftentimes MPs are capacity limited and could benefit from additional resources such as more time and staff. LLMs can unlock new levels of productivity and effectiveness, without needing to overcome those resource constraints. This brief, 20-minute, on-demand training sets MPs up for success by presenting best practices, safety and privacy considerations, initial use cases, and prompt creation tips.

What The Training Covers

"GenAI in a Parliamentary Setting: Enhancing Productivity for Elected Officials" covers:

  • A brief technology overview

  • Best practices for using AI responsibly in parliamentary settings

  • Practical use cases with real examples across three key areas:

    • Research and Analysis

    • Constituent Engagement

    • Administrative Tasks

  • Prompt creation tips to help MPs get better results from their interactions with AI tools

We also address critical considerations around accuracy, security, and maintaining public trust - essential factors when integrating AI into government work.*

A Resource for All Experience Levels

Whether MPs are completely new to AI or curious about specific applications in parliamentary work, this training provides practical, actionable guidance that can inspire an MP’s exploration with GenAI-powered LLMs.

Our goal is not to make MPs into AI experts overnight, but rather to provide a solid foundation for safe, effective experimentation. We hope this training also serves as a model for what future, institution-developed training modules might look like.

*Important Note: Although we designed content of this training to align with emerging best practices, we encourage viewers to review and follow their specific institution's guidelines and restrictions.
