Recent Events
Constituent complaints involving private companies can be some of the most confusing and “grey-area” casework — but there are clear avenues to direct some of these inquiries to appropriate government agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In this webinar, we’ll hear from former CFPB and FTC CTO Erie Meyer about how these agencies handle consumer complaints, and what Congressional offices should know about the landscape of government resources for consumer protection.
Join the Niskanen Center and POPVOX Foundation for a virtual discussion on how to level up your bill writing before the August recess, and learn about tools you can use to write a great first draft.
Join POPVOX Foundation and friends for a reception to celebrate the vital work of constituent services staff! Meet other caseworkers, legislative staff, support offices, and civil society organizations championing casework at a relaxed happy hour. Bonus points (and a special icebreaker activity) for casework and legislative staff from the same office attending together.
Casework teams have rich insight into program implementation (including direct agency contacts) that can be an important source of information for legislation and oversight, and legislative teams can help contextualize and address the systemic challenges that bog down casework teams. New tools from the House are poised to supercharge this relationship by offering teams more tools to analyze their casework data to identify trends and patterns.
While many offices do not directly handle SNAP, SNAP benefits interlock with many other benefits in a federal casework portfolio, including SSI and VA — and understanding the impact of potential changes to the program on your colleagues in state legislatures can also help plan for increasing workloads and triage. In this nonpartisan webinar, we will discuss the changes to SNAP included in the current reconciliation package, and other developments happening with USDA and state-level SNAP programs to anticipate future trends in SNAP-related casework.
